Introduction
Heya! My name is Zodi (or zodiahk, stylised in lowercase). I am pushing 20-something, and I like a ton of tech-related stuff. Also, indie music, old tech, genealogy, voice acting, among whatever else. Take a look around, or don't! Not my problem.
History
I've been on the Internet for as long as I could remember. According to my parents, I was given my first laptop at the ripe old age of 3, so that's... something. Can't say I remember much from those days, aside the fact that I didn't really talk to anyone, and spent waaay too much time online. I had a relatively normal childhood, I suppose. Within this time, I made my YouTube account, on Christmas Eve, 2014.[1]
I then went to a Christian private school, despite being an atheist. I had to do a ton of Biblical Studies and Apologetics. If I'm honest, it probably only solidified my lack of belief in a higher power, which I still hold to this day (or don't hold, I suppose). During this time, I developed a ton of my interests that I now hold today, primarily content creation.
I uploaded my first (now deleted)[2] video to YouTube on Christmas 2018, talking about absolutely nothing interesting, as most young peoples' videos are like. By this point, I was somewhat interested in Endurance Art, basically just doing something monotonous for a long time. I did various personal challenges such as counting to 5,000. Eventually, in early 2020, I did a 24/7 livestream for 50 days, though admittedly, the livestream was a muted view of my fishtank, but... hey, it counts.
Rewinding slightly, I've been interested in old tech, since I got my sister's Nintendo DS (which I had to pay for, no less!). I got my first proper bit of old tech, when I bought a Panasonic NV-M1 Camcorder from a car boot sale, in about April 2018. I had recorded a couple home movies with it, and to be honest, that's probably how I fell in love with the VHS format and aesthetic. I also recorded a message to myself, where my young self would ask my older self questions, in June 2018, using the camcorder.[3]
In October 2020, I became very interested in archiving Unus Annus, and I had created an archive.org page for Unus Annus, and for a long time, was the top result on Google when searching "Unus Annus Archive".[4] In 2021, I became very interested in creating websites, which caused the culmination of... well, this website! I also became very interested in Tetris, as I had played Tetris Friends (rip), and had since 2016. I became sorta proficient in playing competitive Tetris, which is funny to think that that was one of my "skills" back then.
I started archiving VHS tapes in December 2022, with a bootleg eBay capture card. I had a different capture card prior to this, but it wasn't really working.[5] I did eventually get the capture card to work, so the videos increased somewhat in quality. Eventually, in July 2025, I got a I-O Data GV-USB2, imported from Japan, and shortly after that, got a Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD Recorder, to use as a Pseudo-TBC. Since then, I've uploaded a VHS clip onto my VHS Vault YouTube channel daily.
And Now?
Nowadays, I'm in a University somewhere in England, in the middle of doing a Bachelor's. My real life isn't awfully interesting if I'm completely honest, as I probably need to do more things outside. Hobbies-wise, I still digitise VHS tapes consistently, I voice act occasionally, and I'll work on my own, other people's and even on fictional family trees. Aside from that, occasionally I'll play some TETR.IO, among whatever else. In all honesty, I don't play many video games. Not really sure why, they never really appealed to me as much as I'm sure the average advertiser would hope. Oh, right! I have a cat too! He's a Sphynx cat named Bo,[6] born on the 23rd of June 2020.
And The Future?
I'm not too sure what my future holds. I suppose in the most simple terms, I'd like to just do more, y'know, create more of what I want. When I finish University, I very well may go into something like TV Production. I am also looking at Archivist jobs, for the simply fact that I love history. VHS Tapes, Letters, Manuscripts, you name it, and I'm interested in it (generally). I also would love to travel more, but I don't mean purely touristy travel. I've been very inspired by Christoph Rehage's The Longest Way, and so would love to do something along those lines; preferably to walk... a lot. At some point, if I ever do, I'll document it right here. Until then, stay tuned! Or, I guess, stay read? Stay informed? Something like that!
Notes
^[1] - The channel says December 25th, but that's because of time zones. It was created in the late hours of Christmas Eve, in the UK. Oh, yeah, I'm from the UK, by the way.
^[2] - I tend to avoid showing my face anywhere online anymore, so I took the vast majority of my early videos down that included my face (and got my YouTube channel partially removed from the Wayback Machine).
^[3] - I'm pretty sure I was inspired by a YouTube video I had seen of a very similar concept, uploaded by Jeremiah Content. I went into the recording without any script, which caused me to yap a whole lot and not actually ask many relevant questions. I showcased random stuff like my old iPhone 6s, and asked my older self about memes. Only the most important questions! /s
^[4] - I had a Discord Server with 5,000 members at this time, and had created a torrent of all the Unus Annus episodes, totalling at 117GB. I remember being so worried that people would stop caring about the Server after the torrent would be published, and to be fair, I was right. This affected me a lot more than it realistically should've, but... well, that'll happen to a young person on the Internet, being way too excited about a one-hit wonder. I still look back on those times with fond memories, though, it was really fun, and my first taste into fame, no matter how short.
^[5] - Capture Card in question was a Kworld DVD Maker 2, released in August 2008. It probably didn't work because the latest drivers for it were released in the early 2010's, for at the latest, Windows 7.
^[6] - Funnily enough, I named the cat. We got him in Late 2020, and we were struggling on names. I, personally, highly enjoy the comedian Bo Burnham... so, you can see where this is going. I suggest the name Bo, and the family seems to like it. I only told my parents quite a couple years later where the name Bo came from. Another funny thing, is that my mum never knew the actual spelling of Bo, so on all of the "official" documentation for him, he's listed as "Rainbow", and my mum still likes to think his name spelled as "Beau", though I know the truth.
